This private cabin was completed in Jønndalen in Nore og Uvdal in 2005 and is one of our first projects. The project reinterprets the traditional log construction of the area with a horizontal profiled cladding that both creates a modern expression and provides links to local historical typologies. A large horizontal window in the main living space frames a panorama view of the mountains on the other side of the valley.
The project focused on landscape protection, limiting landscape intervention to a 1 meter strip outside the external cladding. The cabin is placed along the prevailing wind directions in the valley. The cladding is untreated heartwood of pine, with a grass roof. The hygroscopic qualities of the internal timber cladding are maintained, allowing it to regulate the internal moisture content. All building materials were chosen for their low greenhouse gas emissions.
